Kacey Musgraves is CMA’s Best New Artist of 2013

November 7, 2013 by admin

awards, country, kacey musgraves

Congratulations to KACEY MUSGRAVES for winning the NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR AWARD from the COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS!

Kacey won acclaim for her album Same Trailer Different Park.  It’s an impressive achievement, especially for a newcomer.

ROLLING STONE said Kacey’s award was a “victory for country music” and it sets new marks in progressive values in the genre.

Same Trailer Different Park has been cited as of the Top Albums of the Year by Rolling Stone, Spin and Entertainment Weekly.

But we’ve known about Kacey for a long time.  In 2008, Kacey lived in Austin for awhile, which is where we discovered her.  I immediately knew she had the talent; she was a diamond in the rough.

I remember hearing her voice and being mesmerized.  It was wonderful.  She had great talent but needed better songs to sing, I remember thinking.

I pitched her my idea to record a couple cover songs together to see how we worked together.  If it all worked out, I told her it was my intention to develop and produce her original songs afterwards.  That was my plan, at least.

Recording with new talent is always risky – there are personality and timing issues and it takes money to rent good recording studios.  You never know what’s going to happen.  As a producer, I was Kacey’s first “super fan” willing to invest not knowing where she would end up next.

I pitched her several song ideas.  She chose “See You Again” (Miley Cyrus) and “Apologize” (One Republic).  We recorded on March 27, 2008, at Brain Machine Recording Studios with engineer Randy Avenell.

During the recording session, Kacey was professional and focused.  She wanted the songs to be ‘just right’ and we spent a full evening working on the recordings.

I remember Kacey instructing the engineer, Randy, exactly how to mix her voice and adjust the levels, with acute precision. Kacey gave both songs an unique personality and she made them her own.

A few days later, she invited me out to see her perform at Momos above Katz’s Deli.  I remember it was just her grandma and me in the audience, she was a great live performer, but nobody knew this girl.  Heck, she had just gotten out of high school a couple years earlier.

Kacey invited me out to lunch a few weeks later – she likes Ethiopan food!  For only being 21, Kacey struck me as being very wise beyond her years.  We talked about recording original songs together in the future.  As I recall, I suggested she move to Nashville and work with other songwriters to develop her craft.

I remember her telling me she was going to hit the road for awhile, play with some different musicians, and take it from there.

We promised to keep in touch.  Kacey was restless.  She wasn’t going to be stopped.  We lost touch over the years.

Kacey ended up in Nashville, wrote some hit songs, got a record deal with a major label and there you have it.

The rest is history – it’s one in a million.

You can download both songs “See You Again” and “Apologize” from Kacey Musgraves on iTunes exclusively from my record label, Triple Pop.

Along with Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves is the top nominee for the Country Music Association Awards in 2013.

The 25-year-old Texas-born singer-songwriter takes on divisive topics on her critically acclaimed album “Same Trailer Different Park” not often heard on country radio, yet she still managed to generate hits because of her smart songwriting.

Kacey is nominated for six awards including Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, and as a songwriter on her own hit “Merry Go `Round” and Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart.”

Kacey will be performing live at the CMA Awards on November 6th.

Austin City Limits also just announced Kacey will be performing a live TV episode taping on November 25th.

Kacey Musgraves’ Early Acoustic Song Recordings Released Today

April 8, 2013 by admin
Artists, iTunes/Apple, Kacey Musgraves, News

Triple Pop SinglesTriple Pop has announced that a two (2) song digital Digital EP featuring songs from Academy of Country Music nominee Kacey Musgraves is available online at the iTunes Store.

Recorded over five years ago in 2008, the exclusive EP features Kacey Musgraves performing acoustic guitar cover versions of the songs “See You Again” and OneRepublic’s “Apologize,” which the label had thought been lost to the sands of time due to a computer hard drive failure.

The songs were recorded at Brain Machine Recording Studios in Austin, Texas when Ms. Musgraves first got out of high school.

“They’re just acoustic songs, but they showcase Kacey’s developing performing talent, which has now made her famous.  She took these songs and made them her own,” says Triple Pop owner, Monte Robison, who produced the songs.

Ms. Musgraves’ hit Billboard single “Merry Go ‘Round” has been certified RIAA Gold and her debut  major label album, Same Trailer Different Park, debuted at #2 in the Billboard Top 100 albums.

Kacey Musgraves was nominated for multiple Academy of Country Music Awards, including “Vocalist of the Year’, alongside Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood.

Kacey Musgraves … is everywhere

March 18, 2013 by admin
Artists, Kacey Musgraves, News

Former Triple Pop artist Kacey Musgraves performed her hit Billboard single “Merry Go Round” on The Jimmy Fallon show last month.

Kacey has been nominated for three American Country Music Awards, including ‘Video of the Year’ as both artist and producer, and ’Female Vocalist of the Year’, where Musgraves is up against the likes of Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood.

Kacey was recently profiled as an up-and-coming artist in country music in The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Times, Huffington Post, LA Times, and USA Today.   And my hometown paper, The Columbus Dispatch, too.  She’s everywhere.

Her debut major label album, Same Trailer Different Park (Mercury/Universal), was released just this week and it’ll debut in Billboard Top 10 albums of the week – pretty impressive!  We’re so happy for Ms. Mugraves.  When we met her so many years ago, she had a special something and we knew she was destined for greater things.

You can hear/buy Kacey Musgraves’ version of the song “See You Again” which you can find on iTunes and Amazon on Triple Pop’s Stars of Montana album compilation.
